Using CAD/CAM and CEREC is an opportunity to change how you practice. I personally have a mouth full of dentistry. So the question for me has always been what type of material do I want in my mouth? But we’ll circle back to this later. So how do we do we schedule CAD/CAM and CEREC with our patients? About two and a half years ago, I trained my team start doing the design work. And they love it! It also takes me a lot less time to go in, prep, and walk out and let my team do the design than doing it myself.
Now, a lot of you are going to ask what about insurance? Will they cover it? Insurance only covers $1500 a year and with the costs of crowns that really not enough. If you and your patients are driven by insurance, then keep doing fillings. But what I like to do is give patients the options. If I had an option? Well in an acidic environment, I want materials that have a good chance of lasting the rest of my life not just 6 or 7 years.
When it comes to CAD/CAM, you just need to do it. Learn the verbal skills necessary to go in and talk to a patient. And I can tell you it takes very little effort to learn the skills you need to look a patient in the eye and tell them, this is the material I’d want in my mouth. So listen in as we dive into more about how CAD/CAM and CEREC can impact your practice.
